Writing Topics

Choose one of the topics below and write for the next ten minutes.  You must have a ½ -1 page response.   Put this sheet in your notebook or binder for our next free response day.

*Whom do you hide from?  Write about a hiding place you haven’t used in a while.

*Why wouldn't they just start over?  Write a story where a character refuses to go back to square one.

*Where do you fly?  You're given a free airline ticket to anywhere in the world.    Your choice.  Write about your choice and reasons.

*What would the truth have done?  Write about a time when honesty was NOT the best policy.

*Why are they quiet?  Create a scene where there are many people but no one is speaking.  Describe it with writing.

*What makes it a game anyway?  Somehow write about a childhood or adult game as if it was real life, not just a game.

*So why did you laugh?  Write about a time you laughed when you shouldn't have.

*Who hurt you but should be forgiven?  Write about it.

*How could you even say that?  Write about one of the times you said a bad word in your childhood, and do it without actually writing the bad word.  What happened?

*What did he/she teach you?  Write about a time you learned something from a best friend.

*What are your 'Seven Wonders'--or the seven most amazing things your eyes have seen? Describe the places, objects, people or accomplishments in your life that are the most meaningful and life-affirming experiences of your existence?

*Where do you store it?  Write about something you own that someone gave to you but you're too embarrassed to wear or display it.

*Why did you forget it?  Tell the story of something you forgot once and vowed to NEVER forget again.

*What's the first (or worst) movie you remember seeing?  Write the story of you sitting there watching it.
